There is a particular light at the edge of the sea, forty minutes before the sun meets the water, when everything turns the colour of honey. This is the hour we plan toward.
The venue question
Every seaside celebration begins not with flowers, but with geography. Is the beach public or private? Does the tide chart align with the ceremony hour? Which direction will guests face — and will that direction look into the sun at 6pm?
These are the first questions we ask when a couple walks into the office with the phrase "we want something by the water."
Weather, wind, and woven canopies
A canopy on grass is one problem. A canopy on sand, in steady onshore breeze, is another. We use weighted anchor bases, woven natural fibres that move with the wind rather than against it, and floral choices that hold up to salt spray — proteas, ranunculus, kangaroo paw.
Rituals, reimagined
Traditional mandap forms can translate beautifully to the shore — but the scale must change. A mandap that feels intimate indoors can disappear in an open horizon. We typically go 30% larger for outdoor ceremonies, and let the sea itself frame what lies beyond.
